Why Would You Do Drugs?

Strand 3:
Individual and Community Health

Outcome:
5.6 a student analyses attitudes, behaviours and consequences related to health issues affecting young people.

Students Learn About:
> Drug Use:
- influences on use
- effects on community
- effects on relationships
- consequences

Students Learn To:
- examine the consequences of drug use on the individual and community
- describe the short-term effects and long-term consequences of illicit drug use on the individual and community.

Stimulus:
Visual Aids (Interactive internet quiz (if possible to be presented to the class on a SMART board) and Powerpoint Presentation)

Scope of Task:
During this lesson students will revisit prior stage 4 knowledge covered in years 7 and 8. Classification of drugs and the short and long term effects of drug use will be explored.

Activity 1:
As a class students will engage in an interactive quiz presented on the SMART board. http://www.acde.org/youth/quiz.htm

Activity 2:
The class will view the following powerpoint presentation on drug classification:
